| Story: |
I had the front and rear rims
along with handlebars, spacers, rotor, and drum
plate powder coated gloss black. The neck fillers
and lower fairing were covered in carbon look vinyl
graphics, as was the seat recovered in Carbon FX by
Sergeant. The latest mod I have done was a set of
saddlebags. They're similar to Adam Hill's set-up,
just a different mount and set up for signals. So
here are the details. The saddlebags are All
American Rider box style medium slant #9036. They
measure approximately 10.5" X 9"X 6".(The Ad says
16",but that is an overall measurement) In order to
mount the bags I had to remove the turn signals and
utilize the stem hole as a support. I was thinking
"what could I do about relocating them?" One evening
I was searching ebay and came across a "turn signal
eliminator kit" It's a small electronic box that
integrates the signal and brake lights together,
only stipulation is that the bike has to have two
independent rear brake light bulbs, well our beloved
Super fits this category! The installation was very
easy and I had to run one additional wire to
separate the different hot leads to the brake
lights. When the left or right turn signal is
engaged the corresponding brake light flashes. Due
to load differential the signal does flash faster .
I'll let you know next year if it passes inspection
or not! I'm not going to lose sleep worrying about
that! LOL I mounted the bags by untying the
saddlebags at the middle and folding over the flap
to the inside against the frame rails. I thought
just cutting it off would not look as good. The bags
have two small ties both front and rear. I cut the
rear tie off and zippy-tied the front to the rear
seat strap mounting bracket. I then measured and
drilled a hole through the saddlebags at the turn
signal holes and also drilled 2 holes where the
backrest bolts were. I used a 5/16"X2.5" bolt with a
large flat washer to go through the bags with an
acorn nut, just like the signals. I removed the
backrest bolts an added a washer through the bags
also I removed the helmet lock. The bags are
securely fastened and due to their small size have
ample room to clear the pipes. For added visibility
in the rear I installed a 4" LED light (JCWhitney
$8.99) that I connected to the brake lights below
the license plate atop of the factory reflector. In
one pic you can see the left signal is on and the
other only the brakes with the LED.
