I've had my motorcycle license
since 1978 and have enjoyed riding off and on during
all these years. I've never considered myself a
"hard core" motorcyclist. I enjoy the ride more than
fixing them. Although I try to avoid some of the
mechanical tweaking of having a cycle, I do like to
keep the machine in excellent shape.
With the advent of the internet it has become
easy to make contact with lots of bikers. I jumped
on the net with my Shadow (believe it or not)
looking for information and like minded bikers. My
Shadow was an '85 model with shaft drive, hydraulic
clutch, self adjusting valves. It was a nice,
dependable ride.
Somewhere, somehow I linked into Super Magna
sites. I was smitten!! They are just the coolest
stock scoot I've ever seen or ridden. Customized
scoots may look good, but one must always be
"dinking" with them to keep them running. I find it
VERY frustrating to spend more time fixing than
riding. So, a stock Honda (read: dependable) that
looks like a custom, and is fast. Now that sounds
like my kind of ride!
I began regularly visiting the Delphi SMOG site.
Although I didn't have much to add to the
discussions, I read most all the threads, learned
tons about the Super, and began to feel a part of
the "brotherhood." I laughed with the stories and
antics, grieved with wrecks and their mechanical
frustrations, and soaked in all the technical tips.
All of this and I didn't even have a Super!! YET!!!
Finally I was able to pick up a red '87 Super in
fair condition. Little by little I repaired horns,
switches, brake light switches, lose or worn parts,
replaced levers, grips, mirrors, and added highway
pegs, windshield, etc.. A little chrome here and
there adds some sparkle and makes my ride unique to
me. My one kickback to Harley are the brackets for
the highway pegs. The long brackets and Kuryakyn
pegs help my 6'2" frame stretch out over those
highway miles. It's a great bike!
