| Story: |
I had wanted a Supermagna for
about as long as I could remember. There was a red
'88 that sat on the road about 3 blocks from my
home. I made a point to pass by it anytime I came
and went. Over the course of about 3 years, I must
have left 10 notes on it asking if they would be
willing to sell it. I received no response even
though I never once saw it move. Anyway, to get to
the point, this June I finally got my chance to buy
my dream and drove about 350 mi. to get it after
only seeing the pics listed on "cycletrader" ad. The
first time I saw it in person I wasn't sure what I
was really getting into. The engine had a lot of
small rust spots. Paint just looked dead. Basically
it hadn't been paid attention to in quite some time,
hence the 9500 miles on the odometer. I took it for
a quick ride and handed over the cash. I had about
40 miles of perfect weather then had a basic
downpour for the remainder of the journey. I also
noticed quickly I was getting about 50-60 mi. per
tank of gas but knew little about what to expect for
mileage so didn't think much of it until just over
half way home. I was cruising down I-80 when
suddenly my top speed was around 50 mph, down hill
only, and needed to keep it in 3rd gear to even do
that. I pulled over and my wife, who was following
me, said it was blowing A LOT of black smoke. By
this time I knew I had been screwed and should have
never bought from the internet. I pressed on with no
other way to get it home, very slowly and not so
surely, through the torrential rain for the
remaining 160 miles. When I got home I tore into it
immediately, and hoped for the best. I went for the
air cleaner first, Jackpot! I received, for no
additional charge, three additional passengers and
some extra insulation for the garage. After enough
moisture was absorbed it packed the three blind, as
well as dead, mice and insulation in enough to seal
off ALL air flow to the carbs. So here it is, 3000
miles and about $3500 total later and I couldn't be
happier. Personal touches include; headlight bulb,
neon lights, billet mirrors, rear pegs w/
extensions, matching highway pegs, side cover
screens, s/s bolt caps. Not planning on stopping
soon either. I am definitely a super owner for life
and want to thank everyone here for making this
quite possibly the best site online. Also, check out
my wife's own rare Honda in the last pic. A 1990
